Oh Lord, so sad! But so good! Don't miss it.
Before Jimena Castillo found out about her true identity, she was part of a gang and considered the toughest chola in East L.A. But after finding her true identity as a Daughter of the Moon and why she has the power to see into the future, she started to rebuild her life. Everything was going pretty good until the love of her life, Veto, came back to her. The problem with this is that Veto has been dead for a year. Veto claims that he has been alive the entire time, but Vanessa, Serena, and Catty, the other three Daughters of the Moon, think he is working for the evil Atrox. Jimena insists that they are wrong. But when her love for Veto leads her to Tartarus, a dark abyss below Earth's surface, will she be able to fight the anger in her heart or will she give into it? If she does give into her anger she will make the Atrox so powerful that even the Daughters of the Moon would be unable to stop it. This book was a great addition to the Daughters of the Moon series, and if you liked the first two you should definitely read this one.
What I liked
-Jimena. She’s tough, she’s badass, she’s dangerous, and she knows it. I loved the look into her past and her association with a gang, because it shows us how the past has shaped her character. I also liked her relationship with Serena’s brother and I really hope it goes somewhere.
-Secondary cast. The other girls weren’t as important in this book as Jimena was. Normally, the other girls all play a big role in helping solve problems, but with this book, I felt like it was mostly Jimena, and I kind of liked that. She was a loner, and she managed to get things done herself.
-Veto’s demise. I liked the story of how Veto was killed, and how it all tied into the story. The time travel and intervention by followers was clever.

What I disliked
- Writing. It felt very juvenile, and even though I’m older than the target audience, I should have still been able to enjoy the writing, but I didn’t. It was very choppy and it didn’t flow very well, and it lacked description of any kind.
-Length. These books are very short, and the writing is larger than average and so is the spacing, so that makes them even shorter than they appear. They probably could have been either lengthened out or she could have made them parts and put more than one together.

Overall, this wasn’t a bad book. It was alright, but a little on the boring side for me. There isn’t a lot that’s bad about it, but there isn’t a lot that's necessarily good, either. It was just kind of there, similar to the second book in the series. Some of these books are just better than others. 3.0
In this third installment of the Daughters Of the Moon series, Lynne Ewing introduces us to Jimena's point of view. Unlike the first two characters, Vanessa and Serena, who are fearless when it comes to battle, but not in every day life, Jimena is the opposite. After she's lived such tough life dealing with gangs and drama, it makes Jimena more confident in herself than her sister goddesses.

I felt of all the daughters I've read so far, Jimena was the most intriguing. She knows what she wants and she goes after it right away, usually no questions asked. She's a bit cocky but that makes the fights she gets into a lot more fun to read. She's easy to relate to because she, like many people (as sad as this is) has lost someone she loved dearly and so you feel an attachment to her pain that isn't sympathy, but an understanding.

The only thing I'd have to comment about this book is the reality. Yes, I know this is a fantasy book and I shouldn't read too much into it, but one scene in particular was very difficult to believe. At one point, Jimena and Collin (Serena's brother) are running from the Followers and the next, they're chatting it up and flirting. If I were running from the bad guys, I'd keep running and do everything I could to protect my charge, rather than run a couple blocks and then talk like nothing's happened.

Other than that, the flow was much better than the previous two books and didn't seem to go so fast. Jimena's encounter with Tartarus was very descriptive and the book was overall much enjoyable.
This book was purchased for my school library and the children love the series. The book arrived promply and in excellent condition. It went into circulation immediately.
