I was stationed at the American Embassy, Berlin, DDR, back in the early 1980s. Asterix the Gaul Album #1 Rene Goscinny Albert Uderzo 8601300455457 Books Reviews
My wife grew up reading Asterix and Obelix. These were part of her Christmas gifts. She loves them.
Gave it as a gift. I had these books when I was young. I really liked them. This one is nicely illustrated and fun to read.
While Goscinny and Uderzo were still figuring out their characters, this first in the Asterix series is a lot of fun. It's especially a treat for Asterix fans to see the slightly less-refined characterizations, and those who are new to the series should enjoy this introduction to the members of the little Gaulish village who are still holding out against the Roman invaders -- with the help of some magic potion. The Asterix stories are full of silliness, cartoon fighting, and puns, and "Asterix the Gaul" is no exception. Despite being the first, it holds up well and is the appropriate welcome to those who wish to visit with these lovable Gauls.
This is really a great comic book for anyone. I read these when I was like 12, I think. I remembered loving them so I bought a few more. They're as great as I remember. Funny, and they make more sense now, too. lol
I love Asterix, reminder of childhood. Bought this annual but the print for the words is a little fuzzy and hard to read. The pictures are fine but the words aren't printed very well unfortunately.
This is a really fun book. It is educational too. It teaches kids geography and they don't really know they are learning. It is funny with bright colorful pictures. It is a fast read however it is a MUST reread. Kids reread it again and again. The kids have not seen this book at all in the stores or at the school library. So it is fun to buy this and show them something that they can't buy just anywhere. I would buy this again and other books by this author and in this series. I would recommend this book to anyone.
I always loved Asterix. I owe the entire collection in French. I bought this for my kid. I heard the boy laughing as he read. He loves it and checked out of the library the rest of the collection. He laughed it even more when I read to him and explained the cultural references. I must say the translation is pretty good and found ways to adapt names, etc. I give 3 stars for the effort! I'm, however, unhappy with the quality of the printing. The writing is difficult to read for not so young eyes and the printing as whole (incl. paper) is of obvious inferior quality than the product printed in France. A Sign of the times, I guess, where price trumps quality!
