Kick Walter Dean Myers Ross Workman Books
Walter Dean Myers, the first author to receive the YA lit lifetime achievement award, probably understands teens better than most parenting experts. Kick also shows his understanding of the workings of the teen brain. The 13 year old protagonist is just trying to help a friend and keep a promise. His good intentions have him headed to court and possibly J.D.H. The voice of Kevin is written by a high school student who became friends with Myers via fan e-mails. Both writers created a sweet story with no bad guys, well intentioned yet flawed adults and lots of great soccer action. I hope Sergeant Brown shows up in future Myers novels mentoring other youths headed down a destructive path. Its short length makes Kick a good choice for reluctant readers.Tags : Amazon.com: Kick (9780062004895): Walter Dean Myers, Ross Workman: Books,Walter Dean Myers, Ross Workman,Kick,HarperTeen,0062004891,Social Themes - General,Conduct of life,Conduct of life;Fiction.,Criminal investigation,Criminal investigation;Fiction.,Dysfunctional families,Family problems,Mentoring,New Jersey,Police,Police;Fiction.,Soccer,Teenagers - Conduct of life,Youths' writings,Children: Young Adult (Gr. 10-12),Fiction,JUVENILE,Juvenile Fiction,Juvenile Grades 10-12 Ages 15+,Law & Crime,MYERS, WALTER DEAN,Social Themes - Adolescence,Sporting stories (Children's Teenage),Sports & Recreation - Soccer,TEEN'S FICTION - GENERAL,United States,YOUNG ADULT FICTION General,YOUNG ADULT FICTION Social Themes General (see also headings under Family),YOUNG ADULT FICTION Sports & Recreation General,YOUNG ADULT FICTION Sports & Recreation Soccer,Young Adult Fiction,Young Adult FictionSports & Recreation - General,Youths' writings,Law & Crime,Social Themes - Adolescence,Sports & Recreation - Soccer,YOUNG ADULT FICTION General,YOUNG ADULT FICTION Social Themes General (see also headings under Family),YOUNG ADULT FICTION Sports & Recreation General,YOUNG ADULT FICTION Sports & Recreation Soccer,Young Adult FictionSports & Recreation - General,Young Adult Fiction,Fiction,Myers, Walter Dean,Children: Young Adult (Gr. 10-12),Sporting stories (Children's Teenage)

A fan of Walter Dean Myers happy to share his writing with other young people to enjoy. Hope this will be a new beginning for young readers.
Read Monster by Myers and thought I would give Kick a shot. It was a very easy read suitable for youth as young as 8 or 9. A good book to encourage a young boy, something he might actually enjoy reading. I would definitely recommend it to a young male audience. Great gift for nephews or grandsons though it cold be enjoyed by just about anyone.
The book was a quick read because it was so interesting I couldn't put it down! It was explained very thoroughly .
My 11 yo loved this book. Walter Dean Myers has become her favorite author.
Teenagers of any age that enjoy soccer will love this book. This is about a teen that makes one bad decision that could possibly change his life and it did!
