When Gabe created the world’s first sentient program, Pi, he thought things couldn’t get better.

Now he’s pretty sure things couldn’t get worse.

After a colossal error on Gabe’s part, Pi turns into a binary monster along the lines of HAL, GLaDOS, and SHODAN. As she goes on the rampage, the only thing rendering her mostly harmless is the fact that she doesn’t fully understand the physical world...yet.

But she’s learning.

And unless Gabe quickly finds a way to rein her in or shut her down, the next time Pi starts a fire, it won’t just be his empty house that goes up in flames.

If you’re a fan of Douglas Adams, Christopher Moore, or Neal Stephenson, then this is a novel for you.

Notes and Opinions: This was a very interesting little story. It gives a lot of emotion on what it means to be alive and all that entails. I couldn't put it down and I really wished that it would have been more than just 266 pages. I think it could have been even better if it would have been longer. This book is a little light hearted at times as well. It had laugh out loud moments and I really enjoyed how Pi interacted with the world at large especially Gabe. So if you love technology check this one out.

Little Computer People edition by Galen SurlakRamsey Literature Fiction eBooks Reviews

It’s a love story, it’s humorous, its serious, its about communication, It’s witty, no spoilers, it will keep you in that “what happens next” curiosity with every chapter.
Good characters. Good writing, plotting that works, and a believable AI. And, there is even skydiving! No sex though, because that would be weird.
i like never knowing what will happen next .
The main character's (Gabe) misogynistic views coupled with his God complex made it a bit difficult for me to grow to like the character. With that being said, I still found the story enjoyable. Especially any of the scenes with Pi. Humorous and well written, I had difficulty in putting it down. Though it is rather short compared to the science fiction and fantasy I normally read, It was a good one day read. And a bargain at only ninety nine cents. I did finish the story in one day, so it was a dollar well spent. Some of the characters (to me) seemed a bit stereotypical, though for the story they fit well. Never having been a programmer or even knowing any programmers, I could see how someone with a high skill in that area could be like Gabe. If you want a quick eight hour read and have always been interested in the world of computer science, pick the book up.
Take one part Douglas Adams, one part Christopher Moore, two parts binary plot and set the blender to frappe and you’ll get Little Computer People. I was pleasantly surprised at this gem of a story, I think mostly because there are two main things going on. First, there’s the plot on the surface Gabe Erikson has managed to do what no one else has, create “The Holy Grail of Programming” aka artificial intelligence. He names this creation Pi and loves her dearly. Unfortunately for him, Pi goes berserk when a malicious worm alters her code and she thinks he’s trying to kill her. So what does she do? Try and kill him first, of course!

Now this is where the second part of the book begins there’s an examination of our world from a certain philosophical and theological view. To explain, Pi is convinced that her view of things is correct and she has no idea that her world—the binary one—isn’t “real.” Furthermore, she doesn’t realize how limited she is in both power and knowledge, and she doesn’t realize how some things she does has real world consequences she can never understand or predict, because to her everything is 1s and 0s (Gabe included). A quick, non-spoiler example, she nearly burns down the house, not understanding what fire is, or why certain activities overload shoddy wiring because as I just said, everything is a program to her and things like fire, wires, etc. don’t exist in her world.

So as the main plot advances, so does this discussion of what constitutes reality, what we—the readers—can really know about what “The Real World” is, what a Creator might be like, His/Her/It’s troubles with communicating with us, etc. This is touched on several times, and it is really hammered home when Gabe is talking to his ex-girlfriend about the nature of things (and how Pi is driving him mad because she doesn’t understand anything).

Though the author’s serious use of Pi’s perception of the world to challenge our own perceptions is present through the majority of the book, the book by no means is a slow, heavy read. It’s light and funny for the most part, has some sweet and maddening moments as well, and definitely has plenty of plot twists to keep me flipping pages eagerly from start to finish. Highly recommend.

I did get an advanced copy from the publisher (no expectations), and would certainly recommend to others.
I really enjoyed this book. I don't know why, but I kept on thinking about the AI from Portal and that always made me laugh. I can think of some flaws of the realism (i.e. with respect to the programming), also I found the brands mentioned in the book rather annoying, but the book is well written, the plot is dynamic and engaging and over all it is a pleasure to read the story. And Pi is really cute.
And also, there are some very good philosophical questions raised by the book which kind of get watered down by the over all light tone of the book, but they are still valid. A creator to father transition is a very good point.
